Anarchy Abound In Platinum’s New Title

Platinum Games, the developers of titles such as Bayonetta and Vanquish, are teaming up once again with Sega to present “Max Anarchy,” as they continue their trend of excellent names. Something they won’t continue is the standard singleplayer action, as Max Anarchy will be an “online combat game,” along the lines of titles such as Breach and Section 8, I would suppose.

The oddest thing about this announcement is that Jack, the main character from Platinum Games’ largely forgotten hyper-violent third person action game, Madworld, will be a playable character in Max Anarchy. Leading me to believe there may be some tie-in between the two games’ setting(s). Another odd thing is that Jack will be in full color, though in Madworld
he was purely black and white, apart from the occasional red blood splatter that would fly on him.

This episode is the first one aired since 30 Rock made its time-slot change to 10:00.  The change in schedule might seem like a bad sign for the show, but it is still strong as ever.  The theme this week is “Marriage”.  Through a wacky series of flashbacks, the audience learns that Liz and Jack accidentally got married since we saw them last. They agree to a quick divorce but, when Jack cuts the budget for Liz’s show, she decides to blackmail him by refusing to grant him a divorce.

Winter Voices: Avalanche-Review

If action games can be thought of as interactive movies, and role-playing games can be thought of as interactive novels, then what sort of game might be thought of as an interactive poem?  The answer to that is a new independent game called Winter Voices by French developer Beyond The Pillars.

Golden Globes 2011: Recap and 7 Best Moments

The film awards were largely predictable. The only big “upset” occurred when The Social Network took the award for Motion Picture Drama. While the film is no doubt the front-runner to win the Oscar for Best Picture, it’s not the kind of film that the Globe voters usually prefer. Voters more often than not jump to award period pieces like The King’s Speech but instead opted to follow the critics groups that almost unanimously named it 2010’s best film, though Colin Firth’s performance in The King’s Speech did earn him Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.

Ron Frenz and Pat Olliffe Interviews

I had a chance over the holidays to sit down with acclaimed comics artists Pat Olliffe and Ron Frenz. With Pat, I discussed some of his more popular works such as the Untold Tales of Spider-Man and his being part of the stable of artists for DC’s 52. We also discussed how he came to work with Jim Shooter on the new run of Mighty Samson, a former Gold Key property, now being done by Dark Horse. With Ron, we discussed how him and Tom DeFalco came about creating Spider-Girl and his extremely popular seven year run with Tom DeFalco on Thor. We also discussed his current five issue mini-series bringing back his character from the mid-90s, Thunderstrike, and if he hopes to somehow work this into bringing back the Thor Corps.
