Cobra #10 – Review

Did Cobra Civil War end just for another one to begin? This issue seems to be setting up another internal conflict inside Cobra, but some really good character writing from Mike Costa makes that more than forgivable.

A new Cobra Commander has been appointed, and he is leading Cobra in a dramatic new direction that leaves some of Cobra’s top lieutenants less than pleased. Being bad guys, their solution is to conspire against the new Commander to install a leader they are more comfortable with. Now, this is why I forgive the comic for seemingly setting up another civil war inside of Cobra. It just makes sense. It is being driven by the characters, and with the excellent way these characters have been developed, it’s hard to imagine them doing anything else.

Batman: The Dark Knight #6 – Review

The man who broke the Bat is back… which would have been a shocking revelation had it not been advertised on the cover of this news and barely improved issue of Batman: The Dark Knight. The characters continue to bore, the interesting storyline gets shoved into the corner of the ring while action takes center stage, leaving this issue at a bland mediocrity that can’t be saved by cameos or corny jokes.

Batman deals with the aftermath of the drug and an ‘unexpected’ guest – Bane, hyped up on venom and ready to take Bats out with his super-strength. Will Flash and Superman make it back in time to save Batman, or will he (and the still infected Flash) perish at the hands of the powerful venom flowing through their veins?

The Amazing Spider-Man #680 Review

The Amazing Spider-man is one of my favorite series because Spider-man is one of my favorite comic book superheroes. I especially love this series because of Dan Slott’s story telling. He knows Spider-man very well and always makes entertaining stories for him.

The cover for this issue had great art. Even though it was simple it still made me entertained and made me want to read the issue. The only thing that I was hesitant about with this issue because of the cover was Spider-man teaming up with the FF. I hoped that in this issue it would not be all about the FF because we get enough of them in their own series. I remember when Spidey had just joined the FF team we always had stories about the FF. It did not feel like a solo series anymore, but I am glad in this issue it was a not a big FF issue.

First Talking Comic Book

Earlier this week Valiant comics had announced that they are going to release a variant cover of X-O Manwar #1, which could actually talk. Robert Vendetti writes the comic book, Cary Nord does the art, and David Aja does the variant cover art.

You must have the scanner app on your phone to allow this to work. After you get the app you scan the bar code. Than you hover your phone over where to the cover tells you to. Than you can enjoy the first ever talking comic book.

Justice League #6 Review

In this issue of Justice League it is the last issue of this story arc. I knew we were going to get a big battle with Darkseid, and see how the Justice League will defeat him in the end. I was pretty excited to see how this issue was going to end, and I am sure other fans were excited also.

The cover for this issue I thought was great. Jim Lee does a great job for the covers of this series and the interior art. The concept I was also very impressed with. We get to see that the Justice League may have to bow down to Darkseid in this issue and give up. It seems like there is no hope for the Justice League. It would get any fan excited to pick up the issue and start reading.

Being Super in Earth 2

DC has capped off the week with previews of Superman and Supergirl for their May relaunch of Earth 2 in the form of two ongoing series. Worlds’ Finest will star Power Girl, formerly the Supergirl depicted here, along with Huntress while Earth 2 with feature a different take on the DC Trinity along with other characters from a world that seems to get a little darker with every reveal.

I’ve got to say — DC really started with their best foot forward this week on the Earth 2 previews, because they sure didn’t save the best for last here.

Justice League Dark #6 – Review

Oh no, say it isn’t so, Justice League Dark. Not that. Anything, but a transition issue! Sadly, it’s true. This most recent book in the fantastic series serves as a transition between the end of the initial story arc and the start of the new crossover with I, Vampire. Is this book still worth picking up or is it just too much filler?

I am just going to come out and say what is going to end up being reflected in the review score: This is the worst issue of Justice League Dark, to date. That’s not to say this is a bad book. The worst issue of this series is still a lot better than plenty of other books out there. Unfortunately, this book really seemed focused on the task of supplying exposition for the team finally forming and linking the events of the two story lines. In meeting these goals, the issue is triumphant, but, by virtue of those goals, that means it’s lacking a few things. Mainly, an interesting story of its own.
