Netflix has announced that its freshman drama Orange is the New Black will be considered a drama for awards show purposes, rather than a comedy as was previously thought. The series will now face Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Homeland, Game of Thrones, among others for awards.
Sunday dramas drew in record-breaking audiences. The Walking Dead‘s season three finale shattered the previous midseason premiere record, and the season three premiere of Game of Thrones attracted a record-breaking audience for the series.
The “Game of Thrones” creator has recently signed a contract with HBO to create a new series.

The full list of nominees in the television categories of the 2012 Golden Globes has been released. Drama newcomers Game of Thrones, Boss, American Horror Story and Homeland managed to pick up nominations aside sophomore Boardwalk Empire, keeping notables including Breaking Bad off of the best series list. Best comedy saw a slightly more diversified list, although suspiciously absent are any of NBC’s critic and fan friendly half-hours: Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock and The Office.
Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been cast as King Arthur in Warner Bros. medieval action movie Arthur & Lancelot.

I discover the explosive hidden gem that is Split Second and, as always, Donna helps us discuss the week’s news and stories from the video game world. Gears 3 holds the best launch this year with 3 million units sold in a week. We talk quite a bit about Sony’s new advert for the PS3 and what exactly the core message is behind it, and that new Syndicate trailer turned out to be quite awesome indeed.
In other news: Mass Effect 3 multiplayer rumors still continue, LA Noire studio Team Bondi are officially shutting down, an RPG based on the popular Game of Thrones TV series will hit sometime in early 2012 and, what everyone has been waiting for, an app for the windows phone that turns it into a 360 controller. Finally, I can throw out all those clunky pads and use my 360 properly.

The results for the 2011 Emmy
Awards are in, and it’s a mix of long-running winners and first
timers. Mad Men
drew in it’s fourth win for Outstanding Drama Series, while Modern
Family repeated last year’s win for Comedy. In fact, Modern
Family turned out to be
the big winner of the night, taking awards in nearly every category
it was nominated. With Breaking
Bad out of the running
this year, the door was left open for Friday
Night Lights star Kyle
Chandler to pick up the award for the series’ final season. Peter
Dinklage also nabbed the supporting actor trophy for the first season
of Game of Thrones.

Bleeding Cool reported that Barnes & Noble is to expand their comic book offering significantly in June.They reported the following Barnes & Noble statement: “In early June, we will begin carrying both Marvel and DC Comics titles that until now have only been available in comics specialty stores. We’ll also have new assortments from such publishers as Dynamic Forces, so series like the popular Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris will come straight to your store. We will continue to search for new and exciting titles to add to this category to drive customer interest and sales. To feature these new titles, we will be creating new layouts for all stores. With your help and support, we believe Newsstand sales will increase and Barnes & Noble will become the destination for comics lovers.”
