First Look: Witchblade #151

Ron Marz ended his 70-issue run on Witchblade in December, with Witchblade #150. Witchblade #151 hit the shelves on January 4th, 2012, and is being handled by a new team: writer Tim Seeley, renowned for Hack/Slash, and artist Diego Bernard, the artistic penciler of The Man With No Name.

This issue of Witchblade is panned as a great “jumping on” point, and I was very happy to hear it would be continuing despite Ron Marz leaving the series after issue 150, considered it seemed to be the “End of an Era” for Witchblade – and a symbolic “final issue.” Writer Tim Seeley worries me… I love Hack/Slash, but the stories are usually much less involved and have more blood and guts than the usual Witchblade comics. Hopefully, the action feel rather than pure terror Seeley usually enraptures his readers with in Hack/Slash will pervade his run on Witchblade, a much more fantasy-based series than a bloody horror-hound series.

The Robin and Wonder Woman of Earth 2

DC continues its week of Earth 2 previews with glimpses of that world’s Robin, currently known as Huntress and future co-star of Worlds’ Finest and Wonder Woman, set to star in the ongoing Earth 2 series beginning in May.

Details revealed about these two characters paint a better picture of the new Earth 2, revealing it to be a darker place than most were probably expecting. Is this going to be a trend with the rest of Earth 2’s cast? Is Earth 2 not only a world where familiar heroes are older but a world where they have also lived notably tougher lives?

Top 5 Best Secret Identities

Unlike the secret identity don’t winners, these heroes and villains know how to keep their identities secret. Sometimes just because of their powers themselves…

Say what you will about the gritty original adventures of Spawn back in the 90s, Al Simmons had the perfect secret identity: a man dead and buried for five years. His ravaged face is unrecognizable, with only his word proving he’s truly Al Simmons.

A Preview of Earth 2’s Batman

Promoting its upcoming Earth 2 series in May, DC has provided everyone with a look at the character design for the Batman of that world along with some comments from editor Pat McCallum that should give fans plenty to speculate over. More Earh 2 designs are promised to come throughout the week.

One thing that is made clear is this is not the same Earth 2 that DC fans are familiar with. Perhaps even moreso than the main Earth, Earth 2 looks to have been heavily reimagined. We will see for sure in May when Earth 2 releases courtesy of writer James Robinson and artist Nicola Scott.

Comic Con Episode IV Trailer Debutes

San Diego Comic Con is one of the most known pop culture events in the world. For one weekend it brings fans and stars to enjoy pop culture like comic books, television shows, and movies. Comic Con Four: A Fan’s Hope brings fans behind the scenes of San Diego Comic Con. Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) will be working with Joss Wheden,  (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Avengers) Harry Knowles (AintItCool.com), and Stan Lee (Spider-man, X-men, Fantastic Four) to make this documentary. Personally I could not think of better people to make this documentary.

I, Vampire #6 – Review

After following Joshua Fialkov’s I, Vampire since its initial inception with the New 52, it has easily been one of the most daring (not to mention most rewarding) series that DC has had to offer. From its gorgeously gritty artwork, to its original story, I, Vampire had set itself far apart from the rest of the vampire stories you hear in today’s day and age, and this month Fialkov just put the icing on the cake. Not only does issue 6 lead to a crossover with Justice League Dark, it is also delivers the catalyst that will lead the series into a whole new direction with one of the biggest twists I have read as of late.

Catwoman #6 – Review

The worst issue of Catwoman by far, Winick goes out of his way to make everything grotesque and omits the sexy. While I could care less about the latter, the former makes this story an awkward mess. With the help of it’s mood-swinging narration, the pacing of the story, and the laughable progression of Catwoman’s character.

After having some fun with millions of dollars, Catwoman gets a big surprise when she’s brought in and tortured for the location of the rest of the money. Another big surprise: she finds out said money was laundered by the cops. And they’re very anxious to get it all back… as is Batman.
