Morning Glories #16 Review

Before I even read this issue I was pretty excited to pick this issue up. I had a feeling with this issue we might get answers to a lot of questions that has appeared in this series through out the sixteen issues so far. This is one of my favorite series and I have been really loving the mystery that this series has. It makes me always excited to pick up the next issue.

Like I said I was really excited to read this issue even before I started reading the first page. One of the reasons I was excited was because of the cover. The cover made me excited, and I always think that is very important for a comic book cover. I was excited to get to see Casey’s story progress since we have not seen her since issue 13. The art for the cover, as always, was also great. It is very simple, but still so life like. That is one thing that I really love about every Morning Glories cover.

Aquaman #6 – Review

Why not Aquawoman? That’s the question this issue of Aquaman pushes me to ask as it focuses in on Mera. It’s a hectic, day-in-the-life story for Mera that touches on where she comes from and where she is now. It puts the spotlight on a character who could be one of DC’s leading ladies, but the title of the book this takes place n is a solid reminder that she isn’t.

A few years back, Mera became the breakout star of Blackest Night. This was a character who came relatively out of nowhere and got everybody’s attention. People wanted to see more. People demanded that she be a part of a new Justice League. Readers immediately accepted Mera as a strong character in her own right with an intense level of interest that few other female characters ever find themselves on the receiving end of. So what did DC choose to do with her? They ended Blackest Night by making her Aquaman’s wife again. They had the character step just to the side of the spotlight, and they did this in favor of a character who frankly had a lot to prove in terms of popularity.

Voodoo #6 – Review

Talk about a book losing all of its appeal in a hurry. Voodoo manages to be simultaneously unremarkable and convoluted as it dives head first into what is supposed to pass for the substance of its story. Substandard action and forced dialogue don’t make for much substance, though.

Man, I so wanted to like this book. I was on the fence about Wildstorm characters being integrated into the DC Universe, but I was won over by the unique presences of Grifter and Voodoo in the New 52 lineup of books. They were slowly paced, but they were some good alien science fiction books. I even gave Josh Williamson and DC the benefit of the doubt with the last issue, writing the poor quality off as a result of a rushed transition to replace Ron Marz and move the book in a different direction.

Z-Girl: Odyssey #2 – Review

Z-Girl: The Odyssey #2 is infinitely better than the premier issue. The characters still have development issues and the artwork has some distracting quirks, but the story has gotten much better and the monstrous creations the team comes up with are always enjoyable to see.

Z-Girl, a zombie in charge of protecting the four tiger spirits and their respective hosts, has her hands full when the team excavates a site with numerous relics that are a bit more life-like than they appear. Even if her team survives, there are even more dangerous forces waiting in the wings to take back the tablets her team has been gathering, tablets that hint at Z-Girl’s sinister past.

Chew #24 – Review

Chew is not a book I regularly read and I decided to check this one out, pretty much, on a whim. What a surprisingly decent starting point to a very cool series.

Chew is set in a world very close to our own, excepting the presence of Cibopaths: people with the ability to learn information from what they eat, including people. As a detective, main character, Tony Chu, finds this an especially useful ability and uses it for good. However, this issue isn’t about Tony; it’s about his daughter, Olive.

Ultimate Spider-man #7 Review

Ultimate Spider-man has been a great series so far. Miles Morales is a really original character and with each issue you want to learn more about his character. I am happy to see that they are not forgetting Peter Parker, but not making the whole story about his death. It is Miles Morales turn to take the mantel and I excited to see what type of superhero he will become with the more experience he earns in this series.

I love the covers for this series. Even though the cover usually has nothing to do with the story. The covers are still great with wonderful artwork. It reminds me a lot of the covers we use to see with the first Ultimate Spider-man series with Peter Parker.

Suicide Squad #6 will be getting a second printing

Suicide Squad #6 will be getting a second printing as the entire first run has been sold out.  This was not a shock to your author as I had already written off this series because I didn’t like the characters or the writing, but even so I bought a copy of this issue.  The reason: they were delving into Harley Quinn’s origin story
