We
have many new releases and re-releases for your home entertainment
pleasure this week, including our recommendation for the week, the
Director’s Cut of German submarine film Das Boot. An excellent film for anyone interested in naval warfare and World War II. Also out this week isTakashi Miike’s samurai film 13 Assassins, for art-house fans there are films from France and Sweden, and there is plenty of B-Movie schlock for your enjoyment.
So it’s that time of year again that some TV fans rejoice at and others sit nervously in the corner praying to some divine entity about. This year has seen some fairly shocking renewals on the major networks as well as some shows getting left out in the cold despite strong and loyal fan bases. So before I get into the shows that deserved their pick-ups and those that should just, well, end, here’s what has happened in the world of TV so far:
Now we honestly didn’t see that coming but in hindsight, it’s not that surprising. Deadline reports that both Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix trilogy, Memento) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) have both joined the cast of Michael J. Bassett’s upcoming Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
Anne Moss, who recently had a pivotal voice role in last year’s Mass Effect 2, joins the cast as a character named Claudia Wolf, while McDowell will play Leonard Wolf. This only further demonstrates how the sequel to the 2006 film is based largely on the game Silent Hill 3, as both Claudia and Leonard appear in the game along with Heather Mason, who will be played by Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) in the film.
Five years after the first Silent Hill creeped into theaters literally and figuratively, IGN reports that filming has begun on the sequel in Toronto, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. Further, a production image has already been released, featuring lead star Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Heather Mason, packing heat.
While no official synopsis has been released by the studio, the one making the rounds online is as follows: “Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand
We can now stop referring to them as “Sherlock Holmes 2” and Marc Webb’s untitled “Spider-Man” reboot. The December 2011 and July 2012 tentpoles, respectively, will be called Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and The Amazing Spider-Man. Inspired? Bothered? What’s in a name anyway?

to the cream of crop. Making the cut are the most benevolent, the
most selfless, and the the most determined of commanders. Their
domains range from entire countries down to single departments, but
they are all inspiring figures and deserve recognition for their
roles in modern television.
