Dead Island for 2011

Dead Island is a new first person survival horror title being developed by Techland, the company behind the Chrome series and Xpand Rally. The game is said to be a shooter with some RPG elements, prominent focus on melee combat, and a non-linear or “sandbox” game mechanic where the action is open-ended. The developers have also revealed that Dead Island will also feature a clear and original story where your character will be challenged to brave the zombie-infested island—which will be heavily influenced by George A. Romero films. There will be multiple playable characters as well as 4-person drop-in/drop-out cooperative play. Players will be able to use nearly any object as a weapon and be forced to make decisions that affect enemy behavior and surroundings. As the island is plunged further into chaos, you will need to unlock the islands hidden secrets and explore the darkest areas of this tropical paradise gone wrong.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds Review

The new age of heroes are here to kick butt and take
names, and after a decade of wondering if this game would ever come
into being, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is finally here. If you’ve
never played the series before, let me just inform you this is not your
typical fighting game. This is more of an action fighting game, in the
sense that the first few matches are going to be chaotic looking.
There’s characters popping in and out of the screen. There’s combos
popping up all over the screen. Before you know it, you’re dead without
even getting a hit in. But with much practice comes great benefits.

New Releases This Week For PS3 (2-15-11)

So here we are, back again
for another week of new PlayStation 3 content. The biggest game out this week
in stores must undoubtedly be Marvel vs
Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds
. The game has been a long time coming, and
any fan of either Capcom fighters or Marvel Comics should enjoy this excellently
balanced and good looking fighter. The other main store release is the very Japanese
Hyperdimension Neptunia which is an
RPG with 3D battle environment using turn-based gameplay. The game takes place
in the world of Gamindustri which you must defend against the evil goddess Arfoire.

Mass Effect 2 Review

After a few years of sighing wistfully at the series from afar,
Playstation 3 owners finally get to try out Mass Effect for themselves
with this upgraded if imperfect port. They’ll probably never get to play
the first game on a Playstation thanks to Microsoft publishing it on
the 360, but with EA now controlling the series, part two is finally
available, and only about a year late. This release raises two questions
though, not only whether the game is worth playing at all, but also
whether it’s worth a shot on the PS3. The answer to the first is
definitely in the affirmative, but the second is closer to “only if it’s
the only system you can play it on”.

The Next Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft
has already hinted at yet another
Assassin’s
Creed

game being developed for release later this year. While the real
details are said to be coming soon,
Ubisoft
CEO Yves Guillemot
has
already revealed that the game will not be on Nintendo 3DS, but will
be a more mainstream title.
More information is due out come May, but
we can only speculate that this title could continue the main story
of Desmond Miles and the quest to unlock his ancestors’ murderous
pasts. The end of
Assassin’s
Creed: Brotherhood
,
the latest game in the main story, sets the series up for another
installment—so it’s likely we will see a continuation very soon.

While
the game is supposedly to be unveiled before this year’s E3, Ubisoft
has refused to release any further information on the future of the
franchise or any release dates for the next mainstream titles.
There’s no denying the unique charm of the previous games and, with
the announcement of another chapter, fans of the highly acclaimed
series are sure to rejoice. Guillemot has also implied in the conference call that this new
game will not be an expansion title either, so we can expect some
fresh content later this year. It will be interesting to see where
Ubisoft takes the game, but given the impressive track record, it’s
hard to imagine the developers slipping with such a great game
franchise.

Are You Ready for Killzone 3?

Now
that we’ve had a small yet satisfying taste of what to expect from
the impressive multiplayer component in
Killzone 3,
we can only speculate that the campaign will bring more of the same
unparalleled shooting action. The
Killzone
series is probably one of the most underrated shooters ever and,
since FPS games are not particularly the most popular on the PS3,
it’s clear as to why this is so. Regardless, the KZ3 multiplayer beta
gave players a nice glimpse of the game’s cinema quality graphics and
unmatched weapon physics and realism. The game itself plays much like
its youngest predecessor Killzone 2, but the game has been refined
and tuned even further—which makes for a truly satisfying and
authentic first person shooting experience.
