Indie Game Review: Snailien Invasion

Do you remember a PC game from back in the day named Liero? That experience has just come to the Indie Games section of Xbox Live in the form of Snailien Invasion from Manly Games. Remember the good ole days when it was acceptable for a game to be multiplayer or single player only, and no attempt was made to shoehorn in extra modes. That is the camp that Snailien Invasion comes from, focusing on the multiplayer aspect almost exclusively and in that respect it as absolute success.

Section 8: Prejudice Has A Ludicrous Price

Section 8: Prejudice, announced a few months back, has now received a “ludicrously low” price.

“There may be something strange in the water down here in Texas, or perhaps TimeGate Studios’ CEO, Adel Chaveleh, has gone completely mad, but the award-winning independent developer and publisher has revealed that Section 8: Prejudice,a sequel to the full-priced Section 8, will be available exclusively as a digital download on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC for just $14.99 / 1200 Microsoft Points. XBLA Market Update – Old-School New Releases

Re-imaginings and re-releases are the name of the game this week at Xbox Live Arcade. Old school FPS fans have the hot-blooded violence of Quake Arena Arcade to warm them up this winter while party gamers have Bomberman Battlefest, which supports 1-4 local players and an online mode for up to 8 players. And old school arcade gamers get to enjoy this week’s most anticipated release, the six player X-Men arcade game. Also new this week is The Path of Go, a video game take on an old Asian board game.

This week also saw the release of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on Games on Demand as well as WWII flight combat game Blazing Angles. Kinect Sports also gets six new mini games courtesy of the free Party Pack.

Deadliest Catch: Sea of Chaos Review

In the gaming community there is a checklist of sorts that gamers go through in their mind to determine if a game is worth their while. This list is quite different for everybody, but there are a few universal expectations when one frees a shiny new game from its plastic wrapper prison. Usually this boils down to the game being fun, having intuitive controls, and having an interesting premise. Somehow this second entry in the Deadliest Catch franchise fails on every level. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a game about catching crabs?

Dead Space 2 “Sprawl” Trailer

EA has dropped a new trailer for Dead Space 2. This is the kind of trailer that sells games, providing hype and excitement but not really too much of an insight. The trailer is disjointed and makes no connections. There’s alot of necromorphs, some death, guts and blood. So, pretty much standard fare for the series. The free fall section totally reminds me of the free fall sections in Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions.

Bioware Reveals Mass Effect 3 at VGAs

The trailer depicts the unnamed soldier from the teaser image attacking unseen foes from a clock tower. As the camera pans out it’s revealed that the soldier is inside London’s Big Ben while the city is under siege by massive Reapers. The soldier gives this ominous narration as the trailer closes: “Only one thing is certain – if Shepard doesn’t bring help soon, there won’t be an Earth left to save.”

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Premiers at VGAs

Bethesda showed the world premier trailer for their next Elder Scrolls game at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards on Saturday, Dec. 11. A release date of Nov. 11, 2011, was also announced.

The trailer, introduced by Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard, revealed very few details on characters, plot and gameplay. It looks as if dragons will play a big part in the game as the trailer was mostly comprised of an unseen character providing narration while a camera panned around a series of stone carvings of the winged serpents, one of whi
