I don’t know if that’s a payback kill from MW2 or if someone is “making it rain”, but there’s money on them covers! This September, Boom! is launching an all new crime drama comic entitled The Rinse for only a dollar. That’s right, one buck will get you the entire first issue of the series being written by Gary Phillips and drawn by Marc Laming. We’ve got a special four page preview and a little blurb from Boom! about the book.

Are we off to the races or does the book stutter and throw its momentum right
into the ground?In the midst that is the Void, Hector finds showgirl Allie
as some over sized roaches attack them both. They run and seek refuge; Allie
demands to know what is going on. Hector lets her in on the bad news.In short,
magic has betrayed them.
Back in a human-less Las Vegas, Hank is engaged in a
conversation with his pet cat Sparkles. They chat as to what’s going on but
neither of them really knows. Hank’s mind is blown due to the fact that his cat
can talk. Sparkles breaks it to Hank that he has had the ability to speak since
birth and humans aren’t too keen on new things or magical stuff, like talking
cats. But everything seems to be lost on Hank as he just keeps asking what’s
going on. (The damn cat said he doesn’t know, let it go.) Suddenly two magic
possessed creatures show up and Hank and Sparklers pull a quick disappearing
act. Now safe they jump in a car and speed out of town.

Chimichanga! – A bearded little girl that saves her traveling side-show with the help of a creature she found in a witches egg… what more is there to love? I missed out on this book originally, but thankfully it’s returning to its bi-monthly schedule from Goon creator Eric Powell. The deluxe hard cover collects the first three issues and has a new ten page story made just for the hard cover.
The Brick Theater in Brooklyn New York spent all of June running a Comic Book Theater Festival, and among the super-heroic plays shown was a two-fisted double-feature of Savior and Captain Moonbeam & Lynchpin, two specimens of super-powered thespianism.
A few months ago Aspen announced that it was going digital. I know people are tired of the digital discussion, but it’s important to the future of comics.
