The “Mortal Kombat” series is getting the reboot treatment. Multiple outlets are reporting that the series, which hasn’t had an official film release in almost 15 years, has found a home with New Line Cinema. The reason? An aspiring director’s pitch to Warner Bros. that turned into a viral sensation.

We’ve known for a while that Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol will play in IMAX. Now, The Los Angeles Times reports that over 200 IMAX locations across the U.S. will receive the film five days before its wide release on Dec. 21.

Based on the Jonathan Safran Foer novel of the same name, the film accounts for the life of an eccentric young genius named Oskar Schell (played by newcomer Thomas Horn) whose father (Tom Hanks) died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. One day he stumbles upon a mysterious key that belonged to his father and goes on an extensive journey to find out what it opens.
