Fashion aficionado Tom Ford’s debut film A Single Man, Training Day director Anton Fuqua’s story of police corruption Brooklyn’s Finest and the Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo based on the hit Stieg Larsson novel are among today’s new releases. On the Blu-ray side of things, there’s Jason and the Argonauts, undoubtedly inspired by the success of the Clash of the Titans remake.

Gore Verbinski speaks about “BioShock” movie

The silver screen adaptation of BioShock, one of the most popular video game titles these days, is not dead yet. Set to be produced by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), the film still has life.  At least that’s what we can gather from Verbinski, as he recently sat down to discuss it with IGN. Vampires win bloodless box office victory

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse continued a strong box office trend in the series, though it failed to live up to the success of its predecessor. Eclipse, the third effort in the tween-age vampire love story, brought in a holiday haul of $161 million over five days, with $69 million over the weekend. Also new to theaters, The Last Airbender rustled up nearly $57 million over four days with $30 million in weekend sales. Twilight put a stake in Toy Story, which came in third place with $42.2 million. The Pixar picture has posted $226 million in sales so far.

The Crazies Review

Having a horror film succeed on nearly every level is a rare manifestation these days, yet The Crazies, which came out this past Tuesday on DVD and Blu-ray, boasts beyond slick production values, is excellently acted and consistently tense. In addition to being a remake that for once does not disappoint, it joins the exclusive club of a revisit that trumps the original (and thoroughly at that). No offense to the great George A. Romero who created the minor “classic” back in 1973, but that movie was a weak effort in almost every capacity.

Andrew Garfield is the new Spider-Man

Director Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot for Sony finally has its Peter Parker in American-born British actor Andrew Garfield. The 26-year-old has scored the role of a lifetime ahead of a short list of young men that included bigger names such as Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass). Sony revealed the news at an international press conference in Cancun yesterday.

It’s that time of the week … or one day past that usual time of the week! That’s right, time for Trailer Tracker where we at Player Affinity brave the bleak and foreboding world of the internet searching for the newest trailers. This week is loaded with good stuff. We start with the much-anticipated full trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as well as two other sequels, Meet the Fockers and the follow-up to last years horror movie phenomenon, Paranormal Activity 2. After that it’s on to retired people kicking ass in Red, Johnny Depp voicing a lizard lost in the Mojave Desert in Gore Verbinski’s Rango, the teaser for David Fincher’s Facebook movie The Social Network and the newest of the bunch, the American remake of the Swedish vampire film, entitled Let Me In, starring Chloe Moretz.
