Articles of Horror: 10 Best Man vs. Monster Movies

“Man vs. Monster” is something we have seen time and time again with films and books. Some things man was not meant to mess with is a good way to describe are inability to play god in a lot of films and books. This would be known as fringe science: science that can’t be explained or science that is being messed with.

Shutter Island Review

Many people questioned acclaimed director Martin Scorsese’s choice to helm a pure genre film in the psychological thriller Shutter Island, but the marriage of one of the masters of crime drama and a Dennis Lehane (“Mystic River,” “Gone Baby Gone”) novel is as close to an ideal match as it sounds. Although Scorsese is capable of applying his skills to more meaningful work than a mystery, he’s able to play around a lot more with technique, style, light and color to turn a somewhat predictable mystery into a captivating thriller.

“Shrek Forever After” threepeats

Are we sure it’s summer? Because the box office certainly looks like the doldrums of the early year dumping grounds, which ironically performed better than what is supposed to be the blockbuster season. Week after week we have seen films underperform and fail to reach profitability or recoup their massive budgets. Prince of Persia, Sex and the City 2, Robin Hood, even Iron Man 2 all underperformed compared to expectations. When looking at the worldwide box office, only four of the top ten are summer releases.
