Tron: Evolution Preview

The movie Tron was made back in 1982, and it about those new-fangled electronic thinking machines; “Com-pu-tors” they were called. This was the primitive past when a typical computer was the size of room, didn’t have a mouse, and only a handful of people had ever used one.  They were big, mysterious, frightening machines and- as far as the average person knew- it was perfectly plausible that a computer with 1 meg of ram could become sentient, then zap you with a ray gun and pull you inside the terrifying world of its digital brain!

Cave Story WiiWare Bugs Fixed in New Update

Few games these days are born from a one-man operation. The PC game Cave Story is an exception to that rule. Over the course of five years, a Japanese man who calls himself Pixel single-handedly designed, programmed, wrote, composed, and then released Cave Story for free into the wilds of the Internet in 2004. Six years and tons of clamoring fans later, this cult classic game that mixes together the elements of Metroid, Castlevania, and Mega Man eventually found new exposure with its home console release on Nintendo’s WiiWare service. Many fans were excited to finally get the chance to pay Pixel back for the work he had done.

Promised a shiny, new coat of paint and a musical upgrade, fans eagerly downloaded their favorite indie game from the WiiWare online store. Sadly, once these gamers booted up their new version of Cave Story, they were greeted by unexpected musical and graphical glitches, typographical errors, and a glitch that brought the game to a screeching halt. Understandably, many early adopters were left scorned and resigned themselves to cautioning future adopters against purchasing the game.

Medal of Honor Preview

So far the new Medal of Honor game is best known for the hooplah over the fact that its multiplayer called one of factions “The Taliban”.  This was considered offensive to persons in the military, but was resolved weeks ago by renaming the bad guys the “Opposing Force”.  Gamers, who probably never cared about the controversy in the first place might still be wondering what this new installment in the franchise has to offer, aside from the moral panic over the team names.  With the game’s imminent release, Player Affinity will take a look at what is to be expected.

Why Don’t We See More Celebrities Endorse Games?

Lately Sears has been using a series of TV ads called “The Sears Blue Crew” in which a band of zany actors dress as Sears salespersons in light-hearted commercials.  One of those whacky actresses was nerd diva Felicia Day from The Guild.  The odd thing about this ad was that Felicia was playing the role of “Sears Salesgirl” selling washing machines.  She wasn’t “Celebrity Felicia Day” saying “Hello, I’m Felicia Day from the popular web series The Guild.  I buy all my graphics cards from Sears.”

Final Fantasy XIV Preview

With Final Fantasy XIV being released on September 30th, it’s about time that we know how it works. There’s been a beta since July, but it’s remarkably easy not to get any coverage on this game, as it’s been flying a bit under the radar since announcement. However, there’s been a lot of information about classes and gameplay released on the blogs, so it’s not completely under wraps. XIV could be considered pure fan service, but without the gameplay from XI (the other MMO), it is actually trying to be a solid MMO, and not just fan service.
