Paramount buys Hunchback action comedy script

It is a good day for fledgling director/screenwriters Willie Block and Jake Emanuel. Paramount Pictures has picked up a script from the duo that is said to blend elements of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and original material with a Pirates of the Caribbean flavor.

“Despicable Me” no dastardly debut

Hollywood held two smoking aces this weekend as studios tried their hand at the box office. Winning the weekend was Despicable Me, which nearly doubled the booty of The Twilight Saga Eclipse, the third sequel in the hit Twilight series. The lovable animated feature hoarded a healthy $60 million and Eclipse took in approximately $33 million. Predators cashed out at around $25 million for third place, a worthy position for a horror film (and the fifth sequel in the franchise).

The Bounty Hunter Review

The Bounty Hunter’s ineptness is sprung from something other than overt awfulness. Certainly, its flaws can be easily extracted but most pitfalls are suffocated in such a thick smog of banality that is manages to rise to a different platform of unwatchability. At least some of the worst movies of all time are memorable in their own twisted way. This latest “romantic” “comedy” which comes out tomorrow on DVD and Blu-ray, is the cinematic equivalent of a NyQuil and Lunesta slurry.

Chloe Review

For a film overflowing with such sensuality and eroticism, Atom Egoyan’s Chloe, available on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, is a rather inert movie-going experience. Amongs the many explicit and steamy escapades of the central characters and the occasional compelling Fatal Attraction-esque revelation, this thriller leaves you with little to remember besides Amanda Seyfried’s titillating bosom.

Marvel will recast The Hulk for “Avengers”

Marvel producer Kevin Feige has confirmed reports that surfaced earlier this weekend that Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk for the superhero film of all superhero films, The Avengers. HitFix received word exclusively from Feige, who implied Norton was not enough of an ensemble actor for this film. The statement caused Norton’s agent to fire back.

Many directors wanted to defy gravity in “Wicked”

After being in talks for quite a few years, a Universal Studios film based on the smash Broadway musical Wicked is now coming to fruition. According to Deadline New York, the musical’s book writer Winnie Holzman, producer Marc Platt, and songwriter Stephen Schwartz have started to meet with various directors. These include but are not limited to J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek), James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Knight and Day), Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a GeishaNine) and Ryan Murphy (Running with Scissors, Pretty/Handsome, Eat Pray Love).

“First Class” within one degree of Kevin Bacon?

It looks like the cast of X-Men: First Class might be within one degree of Kevin Bacon. The Golden Globe- and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actor has been offered a role and is negotiating to star in the upcoming Matthew Vaughn film as a villain. However, Deadline reports that the villain Bacon may or not be portraying is unknown at this point.
