Step Up 3-D Review

Dance movies are a curious little subgenre. The category doesn’t exactly spin out huge hits, but Hollywood finds a reason to make them for the niche of people who enjoy them. They’re light on storyline, rough on acting, and solid on dance. That’s the dance flick formula and Step Up 3-D doesn’t deviate one iota. The actors are terrible and the plot is as worn out as the Macarena but the dance sequences are awesome in 3-D and that’s all the core fans ever wanted.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson cutting off her long locks in favor of a shorter do could be more than just a fashion statement, as it might actually be a career move. U.K. magazine The Sun is reporting that Watson will be screen-testing for the much-coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s upcoming film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

“The Other Guys” man up, “Step Up” falls back

In a predictable upset, Adam McKay unseated Christopher Nolan at the weekend box office. The Other Guys is the fourth strong opener pairing McKay and comedian Will Ferrell. Previously the two bagged $30 million with Step Brothers’ debut in 2008. Also-ran Step Up 3D had a groovy Friday but by the time the dance floor cleared Inception stole the disco ball. Critically acclaimed film The Kids Are All Right snuck into the top ten in an otherwise slow weekend.

Cillian Murphy will be “I’m.mortal”

Inception star and Golden Globe nominee Cillian Murphy is set to star in the upcoming science-fiction flick I’m.mortal alongside Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake. The story takes place in a near-future where humans are immortal and time has become currency due to overpopulation scares. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, Murphy will play a member of the organization Timekeepers who is “precise as the time he keeps”. The film is set to begin production sometime this September.

Fox acquires rights to Millar’s “Nemesis”

With the film adaptation of his comic Kick Ass further building on his already sizable cult following, Mark Millar (Wanted, Civil War) now seeks to continue this trend; 20th Century Fox has acquired the film rights to his 2010 comic Nemesis and director Tony Scott is attached.
