Comic Con is an exciting weekend every year in the world of movie news, but it can be overwhelming and daunting sorting through all the panel information for the stuff you want to read most. Unfortunately for fans of Eva Mendes, the beauty will not reprise her role as Johnny Blaze’s (Nicolas Cage) lover Roxanne in the sequel to Ghost Rider. The actress confirmed that she will not be involved with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (the sequel under its working title) yesterday while promoting her upcoming comedy The Other Guys. According to SuperHeroHype, the only thing Mendes had to say was, “no, unfortunately,” when she was asked about her future involvement with the series.
This week on the circuit we visit The Town directed by Ben Affleck, rev things up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Faster, take a puzzled glance at the Comic-Con teaser for The Goon and settle The Debt with Helen Mirren and Sam Worthington in a WWII thriller. Last off we have the first trailer for Woody Allen’s latest, the lengthily titled You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.
Calling Cop Out — which came out on DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday — a “buddy cop” film would be a gross misnomer. To qualify as such, we would actually have to witness some aspect of “buddy.” Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan have absolutely no chemistry and I did not believe for a single second they would ever be friends, or even be able to tolerate one another for that matter.
Rumor number one for “Batman 3” would obviously be the villain. Fan speculation has long favored The Riddler and FirstShowing.net believes they’ve got a reliable source saying not only is that true, but that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is “interested.” The source says it has gotten hold of a Warner Bros. casting grid, which is basically a list of all parts, actors, their availability, etc. and that the Riddler was on it.
Comic Con, the place where dreams come true, is also known to be a hub for studios to drop major news, first-look footage and all kinds of tidbits on some of the most anticipated films being released in the next year. With that in mind, here is a list of ten things we want to see or hear coming out of this year’s Con.
Acclaimed director Sam Raimi is set to give Wyatt Earp a sci-fi revamp. According to THR’s Heat Vision blog, the Army of Darkness director will helm Earp: Saints for Sinners, a film based on the comic of the same name. The script will be written by Matt Cirulnick, who was one of the creators of the comic. The project will be released under the DreamWorks banner and will be produced by Mandeville Films partners Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.
