Most of the digital distributors announced their weekend sales yesterday, but a few new ones have popped up today. Let’s take a look. Gog.com has what they call “Assorted Classics” on sale. This is six games with no real theme and they include both Postal games, two installments of Stronghold, Arx Fatalis and The Incredible Machine Mega Pack. They’re all 40% off which puts them between $3.59 and $5.99 each.
Remember back when Dead Space 2 launched, there were three downloadable weapon packs that you could buy, right on launch day? Well it should come as a surprise to nobody that the “DLC” was actually already on your game disk, and if you bought them, you were essentially paying to get an an unlock code for something you already owned. Some intrepid hackers discovered proof of this and, surprisingly, Electronic Arts is being very cool about it!
With Dragon Age 2 just around the corner, it’s important to review what we know about its predecessor, Dragon Age: Origins, itself a critically-acclaimed dark fantasy epic that followed the growth of the player’s character to save the land of Ferelden from an impending evil that threatened to overwhelm all life. Since its release, Dragon Age has seen a succession of downloadable content that added side-plots to the existing quest, as well as a full-fledged expansion that takes place after the invading darkspawn army had been broken and scattered. While it uses darkspawn as a generic evil force that has yet to be fully explained or described, the races that inhabit Ferelden and the surrounding lands have unique and lush lore that is often different from the more common tropes surrounding fantasy settings.
Normally, we don’t mention Console games on these weekly sales features, but today Amazon is doing a right fine deal on the special editions of Halo Reach. If you still haven’t grabbed Halo Reach yet, or were holding off on the special editions for just such a sale, head over to Amazon to grab the Limited Edition of the game for forty dollars, or the Legendary Edition for sixty. In terms of PC games, let’s take a look at our usual suspects.

We all have that shameful backlog somewhere in our house; a stack of old games that we bought on impulse years ago, but never got around to playing despite the fact that we just had to own the thing. Then there’s all of those games we started playing and kept meaning to finish off, but were constantly distracted by the latest installment of Call of Duty. Well, Player Affinity’s PC crew pried open our chest of neglected classics and had another go at them to see whether or not we’ll ever play these old games.
BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening was the only true expansion pack that built an entirely new adventure set six months after the events of Dragon Age: Origins. With the land more or less saved from utter destruction, it falls to the Grey Warden to visit Amaranthine, a northeastern section of Ferelden that was previously the property of Arl Howe, who is now dead at your hand. As a result, these lands are now yours, and so the player must ensure that any remnants of the darkspawn threat have been dealt with. However, there is another wave coming and it becomes the player’s responsibility to fortify defenses, explore new dungeons and encounter new villains that seek to overwhelm the already-battered strongholds. Although the expansion does give us a look at what happened to the Grey Warden after the defeat of the Archdemon, it is evident that the Grey Warden’s story is complete already and events cease to follow him/her as far as Dragon Age 2 is concerned.
